The Dan Phillips Trio is Dan's original music project. Dan has been composing since first picking up the guitar as a teenager and has led original music ensembles in Boston, New York, Chicago, Tokyo and Bangkok. The Chicago trio has three CD releases Journey in Mind, Moment of Clarity and Destination Unknown.

I have had the good fortune of working with Tim (www.timmulvenna.com) and Krzysztof for nearly 10 years now and this is our third recording together. I may be credited with the compositions here but Tim and
Krzysztof are truly equal contributors in the communication of the music. Despite living outside Chicago for the past several years now, many of them in Asia, I have returned regularly for gigs and sessions with these guys throughout that period as well as some performances overseas together. It is a rapport I have found nowhere else and hope can be heard clearly in this session. The compositions here are reflections on my personal experiences and travels over the past several years. Experiences I can’t put into words are addressed here in a way I hope can be shared with others.

Moment of Clarity features Tim Mulvenna on drums and Krzysztof Pabian on bass. Tim is well known in the Chicago avant-garde scene as a result of his work with Ken Vandermark's Vandermark Five and the Sound in Action Trio with Robert Barry among many others. Tim is also a great straight-ahead player who groove and swing with the best of them.

Journey in Mind features Phil Gratteau on drums and Krzysztof Pabian on Bass. Phil is a long time, "first call" drummer in Chicago with a diverse and successful musical background. He has worked with everyone from local Chicago legends such as Von Freeman and international stars like Joe Henderson. Krzysztof Pabian hails from Europe as a classically-trained bassist, and has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Civic Orchestra, and an array of new music ensembles. Krzysztof possesses an incredible instrumental facility and musical sensibility that are illuminated in the improvisational arena of Dan's compositions.
